Echelon Parts Window - Style Section
Located towards the top of the Parts window, the Styles section is where you will always start regarding parts. Whether you are creating new ones or working with existing ones, the Style is the main designation of a part.
Within the Style section, there are two parts, the Style and the Style Tabs.
The Style
What is a “Style?” A Style is a point of separation between all parts* (kind of) in Echelon. Manufacturers make things, and usually more than one type or “style” of thing. Consider wood flooring. A manufacturer will probably make more than one design offering or “style” of wood floors. Each of these different designs or “styles” have different attributes. The wood species it’s made of, the size of the planks, the outer coating, the warranty, etc... But aren’t colors a separation point too? Yes they are, but here’s the asterisk*. Any design or “style” that a company manufactures probably has more than one color offering all with in the same design or “Style”. You will create part numbers down to the specific Style and Part number in Echelon, but It’ important to understand the definition of “Style” as it is used in Echelon.
This first main area of the Style section is where you start setting up and maintaining parts. We are only setting up the main, high level “style” of the product in this section. The individual colors will come up in the Colors section.
Here you will select the Product type, give this specific Style that you are working with a custom Style ID and then custom describe what this style represents. We will go more in-depth later
The “Product” dropdown is prefilled from an already existing table in Echelon. This is where you start the Part creation process. Here you are going to select Carpet, Tile, Wood, Vinyl, Counter Top, etc…
Your selection here will designate your new Part Number’s alpha/numeric notation for the first section of the part number. We will go over this is in more detail in the Part Creation training.
The Style ID is your free form entry “code” for this specific Style. What ever you enter here will become the second part of the part number. Try to keep this as short as possible. Initials are usually used for this section of the part number. Try to use something that makes sense to your company. The shorter the better. Again, we will go more in-depth later.
The Style Description is where you will get to better describe this style, The full name, size material, etc can be entered here.
The two buttons at the bottom are at a Master Level usage and will be gone over in later training.
